December 2008: Jack Keating's Greetings from USA
Jack Keating writes: (Top) Stone Mountain is 825 feet tall and covers 583 acres. On one side of it is a huge carving of three Confederate heroes of the Civil War: Confederate President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and Lt. General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. (Bottom left) I was told last week that at least one black swan was seen on one of the nearby lakes. I went for a walk a few days ago and found it. It was eating grass at the side of a lake on the golf course. As they are indigenous to Australia, where did it come from? I have since found out that there are a few on a lake near Orlando, about 60 miles south of here. (Bottom right) A couple of my friends and I were out walking and came across a sand hill crane. It started making a loud noise so we backed off and let it walk past us.
